Laughing Orchard

Laughing Orchard is a sacred retreat centre hidden inside the volcanic crater of Furnas, on the oldest island of the Azores — São Miguel, Portugal. Set within a one-hectare fruit garden tucked inside an ancient riverbed, surrounded by wind-sheltering forest, this is a place where the land itself is the teacher. Hot springs bubble underfoot, mineral-rich air fills the lungs, and two hundred shades of green open the eyes. The centre offers immersive multi-day gatherings — Immersions — for small groups of up to 18 people, as well as private retreat hire and organisational off-sites. Practices hosted include yoga, meditation, breathwork, somatic bodywork, sound journeys, and the unscripted gatherings known as Collisions, where strangers become kin and something unplanned always arrives.

Frequently asked questions

We recommend booking online through our website or by phone at least 48 hours in advance, especially for weekend slots and private thermal baths. For same-day requests we will do our best to accommodate you but availability is limited.
Please arrive 20–30 minutes before your appointment to check in, use the changing facilities and enjoy a short pre-treatment soak if included. We may ask about medical conditions or recent surgeries to ensure treatments are safe.
Bring swimwear for thermal baths; for massages and body treatments you will be professionally draped and only the area being treated is exposed. We provide towels, robes and slippers.
Please let us know if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, cardiovascular issues, an open wound, recent surgery or active infection — some treatments may be contraindicated. Tipping is appreciated but never obligatory; 5–10% is a common guideline and can be given in cash or added to card payments.
